Diplomky a bakalářky, jejihž vedení nabízím

Context Aware Android Application Trace Analysis

At least 5.3 billion cell phone devices (as published by International Telecommunication Union) was shipped worldwide by the end of 2010, and mobile phone pervasiveness is attacking 100% in some countries. Moreover, legacy phone market share is decreasing to the prejudice of smart-phones equipped with feature-rich operating systems enabling deployment of demanding applications.

Techniques of analysis and software optimizations known from desktop systems cannot be applied "as they are" for several reasons, e.g.: (1) the context of mobile device (e.g. internet connection) is not stable and moreover, (2) software of mobile devices differs significantly with respect to architecture.

The Android platform provides features for gathering fine-grained data about the device context as well as application execution traces.

The goal of the thesis is to prepare a basis for easy and extensible trace-based analysis and profiling of Android applications, their logs, and possibly other data gathered on android mobile devices.

The thesis will be written in English.

Remote Code Execution for Android Platform

At least 5.3 billion cell phone devices (as published by International Telecommunication Union) was shipped worldwide by the end of 2010, and mobile phone pervasiveness is attacking 100% of in some countries. Moreover, legacy phone market share is decreasing to the prejudice of smart-phones equipped with feature-rich operating systems enabling deployment of demanding applications. The advantage of running applications anytime anywhere has one significant drawback - increased battery consumption. As the Internet connection has become available nearly anywhere, an attractive technique to overcome this obstacle is remote execution of processor intensive parts of an application in the case of available network connection. The goal of the thesis is to design and implement a tool for the analysis and transformations of Android application source codes that will allow remote execution of battery-hungry routines (probably functions) in the case of available network connection. A part of the thesis will be also a transfer of the functions' context from the device to a server and vice versa. An important aspect will be robustness of the final system (e.g. when the network breaks down). The identification of battery-hungry routines is not a part of the thesis. The expected tool for software analysis and transformation is the Soot framework (http://www.sable.mcgill.ca/soot/), but it is not mandatory. The thesis will be written in English.

Probabilistic Prediction of a Future Mobile Device Context

At least 5.3 billion cell phone devices (as published by International Telecommunication Union) was shipped worldwide by the end of 2010, and mobile phone pervasiveness is attacking 100% of in some countries. Moreover, legacy phone market share is decreasing to the prejudice of smart-phones equipped with feature-rich operating systems enabling deployment of demanding applications.

Techniques of analysis and software optimizations known from desktop systems cannot be applied "as they are" because the context of mobile devices (e.g. internet connection) is changing during the operating time of the mobile device. Prediction of a future device context based on a probabilistic analysis of user behavior would enable various optimizations of both mobile device software and hardware.

The goal of the thesis is to analyze publicly available Reality Mining Dataset (or other datasets) containing records covering various aspects of a large amount of users (especially user behavior, actions and device contexts) and provided methods for creating general models from such datasets. As an example output, probability labeled transition system will be created; transitions will have a fixed time and optionally guards. An example of such a probabilistic LTS are Markov chains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markov_chain).

Bakalářky, ročníkáče

Oproti diplomkám se předpodám český jazyk, míň vědy, víc kódění. Důraz bude na dotaženost vřetně rozumného API.

Pokud si budete nějakou aplikaci vymýšlet sami, preferuji apliakce, které pracují se senzory zařízení a pak nějakým náročnějším způsobem pracují s nasnímanými daty.
