June 2nd 2:00 pm: Systems Vulnerability Avoidance and Network Security via IPS

Dear all,

this is a friendly reminder that there will be a D3S seminar [1] on 
Tuesday June 2nd starting at 2:00 pm in S7. The talk will be held by 
Jiri Gogela [2], Software Engineering Manager at Digital Vaccine Labs 
[3], a security research division of HP.

The purpose of the seminar is to get to know what DVLabs at HP is doing 
and whether there is some possibility of future cooperation with them. 
On the level of the dean's office, we are currently also discussing the 
possibility of HP joining the Partneship Program of our faculty [4].

I am looking forward to seeing you at the seminar if you are interested 
in the topic and your time permits it.

                         Security via Intrusion Prevention System

Abstract: Current complex, heterogeneous and open information systems 
bring multiple challenges in cyber security area. One of methods of 
securing enterprise information systems on network basis is 
implementation of Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). The talk gives an 
overview of principles of IPS functionality and its architecture. 
Further we will focus to more detailed explanation of signature based 
attack detection methods, their advantages and limitations.
