For an average estimate, going with the ECTS credits can work - the course is for 4 ECTS credits and a single credit should correspond to an average of 25 to 30 hours of work, that gives you roughly 120 hours over the entire semester of 14 weeks, or just about one day of work every week.
However, that average might not be of much help. In our experience, the actual effort spent depends on a lot of factors. For example:
- People who have already coded in C have slight advantage over people who have only used other languages such as Java or Python.
- People who regularly use Linux might be more comfortable with the toolchain than people who use Windows.
- People who had good results in the Principles of Computers course tend to do better here.
- You might also be lucky with your teammates.
- Or not :-)
You can also make a guess based on what assignments and quizzes you already saw. The online lectures are not mandatory, so you can save time there.
