Pavel Šimerda is a freelance developer who provides mentoring and training for engineering teams in Rust, C++ and systems engineering. His background includes network device drivers and low-latency systems, having previously worked with Red Hat and SUSE on network-related components.
Teaching
He introduced the first Rust courses together with Michal Vaner starting 2021/22:
- NPRG073: Programming in Rust (2021/22 – 2023/24).
- NPRG074: Advanced Programming in Rust (2021/22 – 2023/24).
The original courses were extended by Lukáš Hozda with a dedicated lab for each lecture starting 2024/25:
- NPRG082: Programming in Rust (since 2024/25).
- NPRG083: Advanced Programming in Rust (since 2024/25).
The updated courses still run as of 2026/27 and Pavel is available as substitute lecturer or to help from behind the scenes.
Community events
In 2024 he revived the Prague Rust Meetup with Jakub Beránek, Martin Děcký and others, hosted at the faculty’s building at Malá Strana. In March 2025 he organized the first Rust & C++ joint meetup in Prague with Miloš Anđelković and others also here at Malá Strana. He is in active contact with the C++ meetup organizers in Prague and in Brno.
